Ipswich Town home match reports from just another season-ticket holder

MATCH REPORT

Ipswich Town 0 Sheffield Wed 2

OK, very quick report, because there’s so little to say. We were average but
missed all our decent chances. They were reasonable and took theirs. And of
course, once we were behind and the movement wasn’t happening up front, we
resorted to far too many long balls which Wednesday dealt with easily. I
wouldn’t have argued too much with the lineup or the tactics, it was just
one of those days to forget.

Overall Town Performance: 5 (3 for effort/2 for achievement)

Player Ratings

SUPPLE 6 (3/3): One cracking save in the second half, and generally
competent, but some of the distribution wasn’t quite up to Shane’s improving
standards.

WILNIS 4 (2/2), BRUCE 5 (2/3), DE VOS 6 (3/3), HARDING 6 (3/3): Fairly
uninspiring across the park, with Fab (as ever) and Alex getting caught out
of position a few times. For Wednesday’s second goal, Fab just watched the
ball (and, I suspect his career) float over his head.

ROBERTS 7 (4/3), LEGWINSKI 6 (3/3), NOBLE 6 (3/3), RICHARDS 6 (3/3):
Gary Roberts looked like a player needing to prove himself, and ran
tirelessly, although usually with disappointing results. Matt made things
happen quite frequently, and even looked useful when swapped to the right
wing, but missed a sitter from there.

HAYNES, LEE 6 (3/3): It just didn’t happen for Alan really. Missed a howler.

Subs: MACKEN 5 (3/2): A bit of “presence” may have been what we needed up
front, but he failed to deliver. CURRIE seemed oddly charged up, but didn’t
impact the game, and NAYLOR was thrown on for a token few minutes up front.

The CROWD were dispirited and thoroughly outsung by Wednesday. Even REFEREE
had a boring afternoon. Mrs R nearly fell asleep in the second half. Next
week is unlikely to see as dull a game, I suspect.
